Man accidentally shoots himself while fleeing police in Southwest Baltimore

A man accidentally shot himself Monday while fleeing from police in Baltimore’s Carrollton Ridge neighborhood, authorities said.

Police reported seeing the 21-year-old man shortly before 7:30 p.m. while patrolling near the 1900 block of Wilkens Avenue and determined he was likely armed.

The man began running as police approached him and shot himself in the hand, police said.

The man then dropped the gun and surrendered to the officers, according to authorities.

An ambulance was called to the shooting site so that the man could receive medical care for his injuries, police said.
