Chiefs receiver and Super Bowl hero Kadarius Toney was cut Tuesday as part of the team’s required roster trimming.

Toney, acquired from the Giants in a 2022 trade, had his best moment for the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, returning a punt 65 yards against the Eagles to set up a touchdown. On the return, Toney initially was surrounded by Eagles players but broke free and cut across the field. He was tackled before reaching the end zone, but the play set up the Chiefs’ final score in the 38-35 victory.

Toney also scored a TD on a 5-yard pass earlier in the fourth quarter.

The Chiefs in May declined the fifth-year option on Toney’s contract.

Toney, who has just 27 receptions last regular season, was inactive for all of the Chiefs’ preseason games this season.

Titans land LB Jones in trade: The Titans acquired linebacker Ernest Jones IV in a trade with the Rams, according to multiple reports.

The Rams received a 2026 fifth-round draft pick for a 2026 sixth-round pick for Jones, who was granted permission to seek a trade earlier this week.

Jones, 24, was the Rams’ leading tackler and defensive signal-caller last season, and he was expected to be a key component of their defense again this fall as one of the NFL’s better interior linebackers. But the 2021 third-round pick is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the sides clearly had made no significant progress on a contract extension.

The Titans are thin at linebacker, and they announced Monday that potential starter Chance Campbell will miss the season with a knee injury.

OBJ to miss early season: Dolphins receiver Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly will begin the season on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the season.

Since signing with the Dolphins in March, Beckham hasn’t practiced because of an undisclosed injury. The Dolphins were aware of this possibility when they agreed to a deal with the 31-year-old three-time Pro Bowler.

Beckham had 35 receptions for 565 yards with three TDs in 14 games for the Ravens last season.

Commanders’ stadium gets new name: The Commanders’ home field in Landover, Maryland, now will be known as Northwest Stadium after the team announced an agreement with Northwest Federal Credit Union.

It’s an eight-year deal to rename the place that was known as FedEx Field from 1999 until several months ago. FedEx ended its naming-rights agreement in February, two years before it was set to expire, making it Commanders Field on a temporary basis.

This one is worth more on average than the $7.5 million annually FedEx paid for naming rights under the previous $205 million agreement.

Owners invite private equity: League owners voted to change the league’s ownership structure Tuesday, allowing private equity firms to purchase limited stakes in teams.

The owners flew to Minnesota for a special session called by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, where they approved allowing the sale of up to 10% of a stake in a franchise to a select number of private equity firms the league has vetted at over the last few months.
