Former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is accusing CBS News’ “60 Minutes” of deceptively editing its interview with Vice President Kamala Harris after a preview clip of the sit-down posted to the news magazine’s X social media account, that later aired on Face The Nation, differed from the response that aired on the program’s primetime election special.

“60 Minutes” correspondent Bill Whitaker asked Harris about the Biden-Harris administration’s frustrations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s year-long military campaign inside Gaza that has seen tens of thousands of Palestinians killed by weapons supplied by the U.S.

President Joe Biden and VP Harris have publicly called for a cease-fire and the return of all hostages taken by Hamas to Gaza — to no avail.

Whitaker noted that “it seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening,” regarding Netanyahu’s ongoing war despite the administration’s objections.

“Well Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things including our advocacy for what happens in the region,” Harris responded in the first clip to air.

Harris’ response to the same question edited for the election special was more succinct. “60 Minutes” aired an excerpt from the vice president in the primetime special where Harris said: “We’re not gonna stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”

That discrepancy led to Trump’s campaign demanding that CBS News release an unedited transcript of Harris’ entire interview. The campaign claimed to the New York Post that the edit was made to remove Harris’ “idiotic response” from the preview clip.

The former president raged on his Truth Social account, claiming “60 Minutes” changed Harris’ answers, adding that they’re “in big trouble.”

“60 Minutes” has not publicly responded to Trump’s or his campaign’s assertions.

Trump was invited to interview for the same election special, but the former president refused amid disagreements raised from Trump’s side. “60 Minutes” addressed Trump’s absence from the prime-time broadcast, with correspondent Scott Pelley directly addressing the campaign’s concerns.

“The campaign offered shifting explanations,” said Pelley, adding “Trump has said his opponent doesn’t do interviews because she can’t handle them. He had previously declined another debate with Harris, so tonight may have been the largest audience for the candidates between now and Election Day.”

Editing taped interviews to fit within broadcast time constraints and around commercial breaks is a long-running common practice for news programs.

Then-president Donald Trump sat down with “60 Minutes” for an interview with correspondent Lesley Stahl for the 2020 election special in the exact same format. Trump’s 2020 interview and Harris’ 2024 interview are similarly edited.

Trump’s newest gripe is in keeping with his long record of on-and-off feuds with major news organizations. Since announcing his successful bid for the presidency in 2015, Trump has frequently attacked how he’s covered by major outlets including CNN, NBC, MSNBC, ABC, CBS and even Fox News.
