Ellicott City man sought

in shooting arrested in N.C.

North Carolina police have arrested a Howard County man suspected of shooting and killing a 20-year-old Ellicott City resident over the weekend. Rane Dellinger, 20, of Ellicott City was found Monday morning in Cumberland County, North Carolina, and arrested on first-and second-degree murder charges. Dellinger was also charged with assault, use of a firearm in a felony and illegal possession of a handgun. North Carolina police found Dellinger in a vehicle and took him into custody without incident, according to a news release from Howard County police, who are investigating the shooting. He was arrested nearly 30 hours after allegedly fleeing the scene. Howard police are working with North Carolina authorities to extradite him back to Maryland. Police allege Dellinger shot and killed Jacob Mauer, 20, and left him in the vehicle before fleeing from the scene. Authorities believe Mauer, Dellinger and a friend were sitting in a car parked behind a building using drugs, according to the news release. Dellinger allegedly fired a single shot, which struck Mauer, and then fled. Mauer was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting took place near the Long Gate Shopping Center.

Baltimore dad charged

in baby daughter’s death

Baltimore Police have charged a 22-year-old man in the death of his infant daughter. Quar-ran Allen was charged with first-degree murder and related charges last week following an investigation into the death of his 2-month-old daughter, Elise Cottman, police said. Police said the girl was in the care of her father on May 28 when she stopped breathing and was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Injuries revealed during an autopsy were “not consistent with the father’s story,” police said. Allen was taken into custody on May 31 and is being held without bond. He does not have an attorney listed in court records.
