Spring cleanup
As Earth Day arrives today, Shirley Tighe, 89, a member of the Lutherville Garden Club for 50 years, helps cover a young dogwood tree with insect netting on Tuesday to protect it from the coming arrival of cicadas. She spent the rest of the morning with other members tackling the spring cleanup chores at the Wildlife Habitat and Monarch Way Station that the club created five years ago on the grounds of College Manor near Front Avenue. The habitat, filled with native shrubs, pollinator plants, a bat house, a bee house, bluebird house, and a spring, is designed to provide all species with food, water and shelter.
