Baseball’s top minor leagues are switching to a challenge system full-time for their test of robot umpires.

Major League Baseball has been experimenting with the automated ball-strike system in the minor leagues since 2019. It has been used at all Triple-A ballparks this year for the second straight season, the robot alone for the first three games of each series and a human with a challenge system in the final three.

Starting June 25, only the challenge system will be used.

Colleges: Connor Hults pitched 4 1/3 innings of shutout relief to thwart North Carolina’s comeback bid, and Jaxson West and Max Williams hit back-to-back HRs in the ninth for insurance as Florida State beat the Tar Heels 9-5 in an elimination game at the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

NBA: Authorities in Canada are opening a criminal investigation into the betting scandal involving former Raptors player Jontay Porter, ESPN reported. Four men have been charged with wire fraud by U.S. authorities in New York in connection with prop bets placed on Porter’s statistics during the Jan. 26 game against the Clippers and the March 20 game against the Kings. No charges against Porter have yet been announced. In April, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned Porter from the league for life.

NFL: The Commanders reached a $1.3 million settlement with the Virginia attorney general as a result of a two-year investigation into how the franchise handled the return of season-ticket deposits.

WNBA: The Fever’s win against the Sky on Sunday was the WNBA’s most-watched game in 23 years, CBS announced. The game featured 2024 first overall pick Caitlin Clark of the Fever and No. 7 overall pick Angel Reese of the Sky. The contest averaged 2.25 million viewers.
