Mexican restaurant Cocina Luchadoras will close, it said in a statement posted to Instagram.

Owner Rosalyn Vera said in the announcement credited to her and the Luchadoras team:

“It is with humble gratitude and a heavy heart that I announce the closing of our Upper Fells location of Cocina Luchadoras. This has been an incredibly difficult and emotional decision, and after 8 beautiful years, I am sad to say goodbye to a location that has given so much to the Upper Fells community. Regrettably, I could not manage the rising costs of operating the restaurant,” she wrote.

Vera also thanked her past and present employees and the Baltimore community who enjoyed the restaurant, known for its tacos, tortas and tamales.

It was unclear from the announcement when the last day of operation for Cocina Luchadoras will be or if Vera plans to move to another location from the brick-and-mortar located at 253 S. Broadway. Cocina Luchadoras has a food truck listed on its website as a pickup location for take-out orders. The restaurant didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The caption of the Instagram post said in Spanish, “See you soon, my beautiful Baltimore, thank you for so much love.”

Comments were filled with diners and those in the food industry; some even tagged Mayor Brandon Scott asking if he could do something to stop the closure.

Last year, Vera had a GoFundMe fundraiser to keep the restaurant afloat amidst skyrocketing lettuce prices and growing competition.
