Donta Scott, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound small forward from Philadelphia, has committed to Maryland for 2019, a source with knowledge of the situation said Wednesday.

Scott becomes the third player to commit for next season, joining twin big men Makhi and Makhel Mitchell, who announced their intention to join the Terps before their junior year in 2017.

Scott is the second player in the last week to commit to Maryland. Marcus Dockery, a 6-foot point guard from Washington, committed to the Class of 2020.

While Scott is not as highly rated nationally as Dockery or Mahki Mitchell — he is a not a consensus four-star prospect — he was still considered an important get for the Terps.

Along with getting the first commit since the Mitchells more than a year ago, Maryland also beat out Georgetown locally as well as fellow Big Ten member Penn State, which has had tremendous success recruiting Philadelphia.

Assistant coach Kevin Broadus, who was brought in by Mark Turgeon after the 2016-17 season to help bolster the recruiting, was the lead recruiter on Scott and the Mitchell brothers.

Scott plays at Imhotep Institute, the same charter school that sent wide receiver DJ Moore to Maryland.
