Democrats will be in Chicago next week to officially select Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz to be their party’s nominees.

Over the course of four days, Democrats will highlight their vision for the next four years.

Local and federal officials are expected to share with the public what safety measures are in place for next week’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The news conference on Tuesday will include what preparations, like fencing and road closures, are already in place.

A security perimeter will go up on Tuesday at the United Center arena and McCormick Place Convention Center, according to the U.S. Secret Service.

The Office of Emergency Management and Communications confirmed to WGN that there will be intermittent traffic impacts such as rolling road closure so that construction to secure the area can begin on Tuesday.

There will be two zones in the secured perimeter: one for credentialed personnel and the other for the public. The area open to the public is subject to security checks.

Later on this week, more additional closures are planned for pedestrians and vehicles.

Law enforcement officers from around Illinois and federal agencies will be assisting Chicago police before and during the DNC — similar to the way the Republican National Convention bolstered its security.

A judge is expected to rule on Tuesday on where demonstrators can be during the convention.

Milwaukee hosted last month’s Republican National Convention and the pandemic-altered 2020 Democratic National Convention.
