Mets: Fans rose to their feet for Juan Soto’s Yankee Stadium return in a rare standing jeer, and he responded by taking off his helmet, tipping it to the crowd and touching it against his heart. Having spurned the Yankees’ riches for the Mets’ even greater fortunes, Soto was the center of attention back in the Bronx, wearing bright orange wristbands that could be spotted from the farthest seats.

Twins: Twins shortstop Carlos Correa was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list Friday, a day after he collided with center fielder Byron Buxton in pursuit of a shallow fly ball. Buxton had entered concussion protocol after the Twins’ 4-0 win at Baltimore on Thursday and also was held out of the Twins’ lineup Friday for the opener of a three-game series at Milwaukee. The Twins carry an 11-game winning streak.

Pirates: Gene Lamont is back where he once belonged. The Pirates are bringing back their former manager as a special adviser to current manager Don Kelly. This is Lamont’s third stint with the Pirates. He served as a coach under Jim Leyland from 1986-91. Lamont later spent four seasons as the Pirates’ manager, posting a record of 295-352 from 1997-2000. Kelly took over as Pirates manager for the remainder of the season when the club fired Derek Shelton last week.

Yankees: Right-hander Jonathan Loáisiga was activated from the 15-day injured list by the Yankees on Friday, less than 13 months after Tommy John surgery. The Yankees designated left-hander Tyler Matzek for assignment ahead of the Subway Series opener against the Mets. A 30-year-old reliever, Loáisiga had a 1.23 ERA in six minor league rehab appearances from April 26 through Tuesday, striking out seven and walking none in 3 1/3 innings. He made three relief appearances during the first seven days of the 2024 season, then went on the injured list because of a strained right flexor muscle, then had Tommy John surgery with team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad on May 1.

Brewers: The Brewers acquired left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny from the New York Yankees for cash and optioned right-handed pitcher Elvis Peguero to Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Diamondbacks: The Diamondbacks placed left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez on the injured list Friday because of shoulder inflammation. The 32-year-old has struggled this season with a 1-3 record and a 7.05 ERA over nine starts.

Phillies: Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday with a sprained right ankle. The 31-year-old veteran has struggled this season and is coming off an outing against St. Louis on Wednesday in which he allowed 12 hits, nine runs and three homers — all career highs — in a 14-7 loss. Nola originally injured the ankle while doing agility work in the outfield in Tampa last Thursday.
