Baltimoreans who regularly tune in to WYPR on 88.1 FM for “All Things Considered” will start hearing a new voice next week when Marquis Lupton becomes the local host of the weekday news program.

WYPR, the National Public Radio station for Baltimore and other parts of Maryland, announced Lupton’s appointment Monday.

NPR’s “All Things Considered” debuted on 90 public radio stations in 1971 and is billed as the “most listened-to, afternoon drive-time, news radio program in the country.”

The show’s NPR hosts are Ailsa Chang, Mary Louise Kelly, Ari Shapiro, Juana Summers and Scott Detrow.

Starting July 10, Lupton will be heard on WYPR as the show’s local host every weekday beginning at 4 p.m.

“[Lupton’s] experience and passion for storytelling will undoubtedly enrich our programming and provide our listeners with insightful and engaging content,” WYPR Chief Content Officer Jonathan Blakley said in a news release.

Lupton previously worked as a host for the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, public radio station WITF, and with outlets including CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, NPR and PBS.

The Lancaster, Pennsylvania, native graduated from Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and has a master’s degree in media management from Morgan State University.

He has taught media classes at universities and founded The Cultured Professional, described in a news release as a “media company dedicated to highlighting positive narratives within the Black community.”

“I look forward to the opportunity to continue my broadcasting career at Baltimore Public Media,” Lupton said in a statement.

“As a Morgan State grad, it was always my goal to return to Baltimore and work in media, and I’m excited at the thought of returning to Charm City, building new connections, and giving Baltimore, Maryland and beyond, the news!”
