Rays: The Rays struck out in record fashion and lost their home finale on a strange play. Dustin Pedroia scored from first on David Ortiz's double in the 10th and the Red Sox beat the Rays 3-2 for their 11th consecutive win. The relay beat Pedroia to home plate, but he avoided catcher Luke Maile's first tag. Pedroia slid past the plate and when he went back to touch it, Maile dropped the ball on another tag try. Eduardo Rodriguez struck out a career-high 13 in 51/3 innings. Rodriguez and Heath Hembree combined to strike out 11 consecutive batters to establish a major-league record. The Rays are the fifth team to strike out 23 or more times in a game.

Dodgers: The Dodgers clinched their fourth straight NL West title when Charlie Culberson homered with two outs in the 10th to defeat the Rockies 4-3. Culberson's first homer of the season and the sixth of his career touched off wild cheers and a raucous celebration at home plate. Under first-year manager Dave Roberts, the Dodgers became the first NL West team to win four consecutive division championships.

Padres: Rookie Manuel Margot tripled in the seventh and scored the go-ahead run on Wil Myers' single as the Padres defeated the Giants 4-3 to drop the Giants a game behind the Mets in the NL wild-card race.

Blue Jays: Ezequiel Carrera drove in the tying run with a squeeze bunt in the ninth inning, Edwin Encarnacion hit a winning single and the Blue Jays kept their AL wild-card lead with a 4-3 victory over the Yankees.

Royals: Salvador Perez homered to cap a cycle by the Royals' first four batters of the game, and the Royals went deep three more times to beat the Tigers 12-9 and avoid elimination. The loss dropped the Tigers 11/2 games behind the Orioles for the second wild-card spot.

Orioles: Hyun Soo Kim hit his fifth home run, a two-run shot in the second, and the Orioles beat the Diamondbacks 2-1 to complete a three-game sweep.

Extra innings: Home plate umpire Jerry Layne was hit in the mask by a foul ball in the first inning and had to leave the game between the Mariners and Twins in Minneapolis because of concussion-like symptoms. ... Joe Musgrove pitched seven strong innings, Evan Gattis, Tony Kemp and Tyler White homered, and the Astros beat the Angels 4-1 to snap a three-game slide and preserve their playoff hopes. ... The Athletics beat the Rangers 7-1 and knocked the AL West champions into a tie with the Red Sox for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
