The Top of the World Observation Level plans to shut down in May, according to the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts.

Top of the World, on the 27th floor of the Baltimore World Trade Center at 401 E. Pratt St., allows visitors to see up to 30 miles away under the right conditions, according to BOPA.

BOPA, which has acted as the deck’s steward since 2005, will hold special pop-up events and offer discounts as the space winds down, it said in a statement Thursday. Top of the World was the home of the 9/11 Memorial of Maryland, as well as the Gallery in the Sky.

“The memorial was commissioned by the state. At this time the city and BOPA are working closely with state officials on a new location. The state is looking at options for the component of the memorial that has been located at TOTW.

“The state is not renewing the lease in order to have access to more office space for state agencies,” a BOPA spokesperson told The Baltimore Sun about the closure via email.
