City teen gets the golden buzzer
Baltimore teenager Jayna Brown wowed everyone on Wednesday night's episode of “America's Got Talent” — especially guest judge Louis Tomlinson of One Direction, who hit the golden buzzer to send the 14-year-old singer straight to the next round of the competition.
Brown's performance of Andra Day's “Rise Up” earned a standing ovation from the audience and the judges of the NBC show.
“You, young lady, have just turned this competition upside down,” judge Simon Cowell said.
The Baltimore teen also opened up about her family's financial struggles, sharing that she and her mom are homeless and staying with friends and family.
“There's so much at stake here. I feel like it's an opportunity to give back to my mom,” Brown said.
After Tomlinson awarded her the golden buzzer, Brown ran to embrace her mom in the audience (and get a hug from the One Direction star, too).
Brown will now move on to the live shows round of “America's Got Talent,” the first episode of which airs Tuesday at 8 p.m.
