Prominent transgender actor Hunter Schafer spoke out on TikTok Friday when her renewed passport listed her gender as male after President Donald Trump’s executive order stating it is the “policy” of the U.S. to “recognize two sexes, male and female.”
Schafer, 26, known for her roles in HBO’s “Euphoria” and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” said she initially doubted the policy would go into action because “our president is a lot of talk and I will believe it when I see it.”
She added that the gender markers on her government-issued IDs have been female since she was a teenager.
“Trans people are beautiful. We are never going to stop existing. I’m never gonna stop being trans,” she said in the nearly nine-minute video. “A letter and a passport can’t change that. And f*** this administration.”
Schafer continued to say she didn’t post the video to “create drama” or “receive consolation” but that “it’s worth posting to sort of note the reality of the situation and that it is actually happening.”
She said she is worried about traveling out of the country in the next week and having to “out myself to Border Patrol” and for other trans people in similar situations.
In recent weeks, Trump has signed other executive orders regarding transgender people including limits on trans girls and women playing sports in school, prohibiting transgender people from enlisting in the military and restricting gender-affirming care for trans youth.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced the agency issued guidance recognizing two sexes.
“This administration is bringing back common sense and restoring biological truth to the federal government,” HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. said in a statement. “The prior administration’s policy of trying to engineer gender ideology into every aspect of public life is over.”
