The Anne Arundel County Police Department is installing a speed enforcement camera outside Oakwood Elementary School in Glen Burnie this week as part of its plan to reduce traffic-related deaths and injuries.

According to a news release from the police department, the speed enforcement camera will be installed Thursday in the 300 block of Oak Manor Drive, which is part of a school zone.

The camera will operate Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Citations will not be issued until 15 days after the camera has been installed, police said.Anne Arundel County Police Sgt. Chris Anderson said that fines will be issued to violators after that 15-day period. He said he did not believe points would be added to the person’s license.

According to a county webpage for the Automated Traffic Enforcement Speed Program, 16 other speed cameras are planned for schools in the county with 20 already set up outside other schools. The goal of the program, police said, is to increase road safety and reduce traffic-related deaths.

Most recently, cameras were installed in May outside Hebron-Harman Elementary School in Hanover and High Point Elementary School in Pasadena.
