Anne Arundel County Police are seeking suspects in the assault and robbery of two people near the Cinemark at Arundel Mills mall.

At about 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the 7000 block of Arundel Mills Mall for a report of a robbery at the Cinemark.

When they arrived, they found a 19-year-old and an 18-year-old, both described as white males, involved in the incident, said Anne Arundel County Police in a release.

One of the men reported a stolen wallet, and the other said he’d been physically assaulted by three men, the release said. Authorities said the altercation began from a verbal dispute during a movie, when one of the victims “directed racial epithets at the suspects,” who police said are black males.

The victim who was assaulted was transported to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Police said the suspects fled the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 410-222-6155. Anonymous callers can call the Anne Arundel County Police Tip Line at 410-222-4700.

This incident comes nearly a week after a man was fatally shot in a parking lot near the same movie theater. The event was noted as “a targeted event,” meaning there is no threat to the public. The shooting victim was identified as 31-year-old Yant Junior Gomez of Harlem, New York, but arrests haven’t been announced.

Meanwhile, Anne Arundel County Police has assigned officers permanently to be at the mall while having officers working in the surrounding districts, said Adrienne Johnson, an Anne Arundel County Police spokesperson, in an emailed statement.

“We have an excellent relationship with the Arundel Mills Mall security team,” Johnson said in an the statement. “We work in partnership with them in an effort to provide the safest environment for visitors to the mall. “
