Organizers of the Baltimore County Farmers Market at the Maryland State Fairgrounds have canceled the event after 14 seasons.
Andrew Cashman, general manager of the fairgrounds, cited the market’s poor attendance and trouble maintaining vendors as the key drivers behind the decision to close.
Cashman said the market’s organizers made the decision to cancel in April, due to only one vendor being confirmed to participate for the season ahead of its June 4 opening date, despite efforts to attract more vendors.
“Vendors from last season wanted to come but couldn’t find the workers,” said Patrick Ruhl, of Kingsville-based Hills Forest Fruit Farm, which was the single vendor confirmed for the Lutherville market this season.
The fairgrounds have a number of other events planned for summer, including a wine festival, a German festival and the Maryland State Fair, which begins Aug. 21.
