Jaromir Jagr wants more time before making his debut.

The 45-year-old right wing decided not to play in the Flames’ home opener Saturday night against the Jets. After arriving Wednesday from the Czech Republic, Jagr had two practices and the pregame skate Saturday with his new team.

Coach Glen Gulutzan said when Jagr, the NHL’s No. 2 career scorer with 1,914 points, plays the first game of his 24th NHL season is his decision.

“He said he felt a lot better the second day than he did the first and that he probably needs a couple more good skates,” Gulutzan said Saturday. “I thought he was very good (Friday) for a 45-year-old guy with no training camp, but he needs a couple more days to get up to game speed.”

LW James Neal scored twice in the third period Friday night, rallying the Golden Knights to a 2-1 win over the Stars in the debut of Las Vegas’ first major pro sports franchise. G Marc-Andre Fleury made 45 saves as the Knights became the first expansion team since 1992 to open with a win. AP
