The Senators fired coach Guy Boucher on Friday and named assistant Marc Crawford as the interim replacement with the NHL’s last-place team mired in a six-game skid.

The 47-year-old Boucher coached the Senators to within one victory of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final in his first season behind the bench.

GM Pierre Dorion gave Boucher a vote of confidence Monday. He said he decided a change was needed Thursday, when the Senators lost 4-2 at home to the Oilers.

Crawford, 58, coached the Avalanche to the Stanley Cup in 1996.

The Flyers set a league record when Cam Talbot became their eighth goaltender to play this season. Talbot, who was acquired from the Oilers in mid-February for goaltender Anthony Stolarz, made his first appearance for the Flyers in Friday night’s 6-3 road win over the Devils. ... Alex Ovechkin became the first player in league history with 10 seasons of 45 goals or more, scoring in a three-goal third period as the Capitals rallied for a 3-1 victory over the host Islanders. The Caps extended their winning streak to three while tying the Islanders for first place in the Metropolitan Division. AP
