The opening to the Atlantic Coast Conference season wasn't kind to Duke and North Carolina.

Both perennial powerhouses lost on the road Saturday as Virginia Tech easily handled the No. 5 Blue Devils 89-75 and Georgia Tech knocked off the No. 9 Tar Heels 75-63.

Justin Bibbs hit four 3-pointers and had 18 points as the Hokies (12-1, 1-0) snapped a nine-game skid against Duke (12-2, 0-1).

“Our confidence is sky high right now,” Bibbs said. “I feel like we can play against anybody, with anybody.”

The Hokies dominated from start to finish, jumping out to a 47-31 halftime lead.

Luke Kennard paced the Blue Devils with 34 points.

“We played like we've been playing — without continuity,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said.

Josh Okogie scored 26 points and Ben Lammers had 11 points and 11 rebounds as the Yellow Jackets (9-4, 1-0) defeated North Carolina.

Justin Jackson finished with 16 points and Nate Britt scored 13 for the Tar Heels (12-3, 0-1), who committed a season-high 20 turnovers and shot just 33 percent.

'Nova wins showdown: Jalen Brunson scored a career-high 27 points as top-ranked Villanova extended its school-record winning streak to 20 games with an 80-70 road victory over No. 10 Creighton.

Kris Jenkins added 21 points and Josh Hart had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the defending national champion Wildcats (14-0, 2-0 Big East).

Marcus Foster led the Bluejays (13-1, 1-1) with 22 points.

Elsewhere: Dwayne Bacon scored 26 of his 29 points after halftime and hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 4 seconds left, lifting No. 20 Florida State (14-1, 2-0 ACC) past No. 12 Virginia 60-58 in Charlottesville, Va. Kyle Guy, who hit a 3-pointer with 8.8 seconds to play, led the Cavaliers (11-2, 1-1) with 14 points. ...
