U.S. Open semifinalist Frances Tiafoe aimed a torrent of expletives at the chair umpire after losing a match at the Shanghai Masters on Tuesday.

Tiafoe targeted umpire Jimmy Pinoargote with about 10 expletives in a minute-long tirade after his 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (5) loss against 61st-ranked Roman Safiullin in a third-round match.

The ATP rule book calls for fines of $60,000 at Masters 1000 tournaments.

A tour spokesman said no decision has yet been made on the matter.

The 17th-ranked Tiafoe was angered by being docked his first serve for a time violation at 5-5 in the decisive tiebreaker.

Pursuing a 100th career title, Novak Djokovic had an easier time in his second match at the Shanghai Masters in ousting Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 6-2. Djokovic, who has won four of his 99 titles in Shanghai, next faces 61st-ranked Roman Safiullin who upset the 13th-seeded American Frances Tiafoe 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (5).

WNBA: The Minnesota Lynx advanced to the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2017 after beating the Connecticut Sun 88-77.

MLB: Thieves surrounded Dodgers starting pitcher Walker Buehler last month and ripped a pricey watch off his arm, police said. Buehler was not threatened during the incident, which happened Sept. 28 at the Santa Anita Park horse racing track in the Los Angeles surburb of Arcadia, police there said.
