As caterer Charles Levine prepares to open his first restaurant, Citron, in a Pikesville shopping center, he's also building an adjacent venue that will provide additional dining and event space.

Citron, at Quarry Lake at Greenspring, is on pace to open in November.

And it will be followed in January with the opening of the Cove at Citron, an event space next door to the restaurant with the capacity to host 150 seated guests or 200 at a cocktail reception.

Levine said he realized early during the construction process that Citron needed more space.

The adjacent Cove at Citron adds 3,600 square feet to the restaurant and extends its lakefront views.

“You want to keep the intention of the restaurant being the restaurant as much as possible, and I am a caterer and it just seemed to make sense,” said Levine, who also owns Charles Levine Caterers.

The restaurant will seat 275 inside the 10,500-square-foot space. Citron will also have private dining space for as many as 50 guests in addition to its dining room, bar, patio and deck.

The Cove will provide additional dining space for the restaurant on busy holidays like Mother's Day and New Year's Eve, but it will also house private and corporate events.

Citron will offer a seasonal American menu that incorporates local ingredients.

Located at 2605 Quarry Lake Drive, Citron will serve dinner seven days a week when it opens this fall, and lunch service will follow.

The Cove at Citron is accepting bookings for corporate and social events starting in January.

In brief

White Envelope, a modern arepas bar, is the latest addition to the lineup at the R. House emporium opening this fall in Remington. Chef Federico Tischler is opening a stall that will put his spin on a traditional Latin American comfort food.

Arepas consist of cornbread split open and stuffed with a variety of ingredients, and Tischler's will feature sweet, savory and spicy ingredients.

In addition to the $7 arepas, White Envelope will also offer caratos, housemade juices made from scrap ingredients like pineapple skins and flavored with cinnamon and sugar.

The cooperative behind Red Emma's Bookstore Coffeehouse is opening a new coffee shop and roasting business at Open Works in Greenmount West.

The Red Emma's team will open the Greenmount Coffee Lab in November at the new maker space, located at 1400 Greenmount Ave. The coffee shop will be worker-owned and cooperatively managed like Red Emma's.

Greenmount Coffee Lab will offer some of the same drinks as Red Emma's North Avenue location, as well as new brewing methods. The food menu will be smaller, focused on pastries, salads and snacks.

In addition to the retail area, Open Works will provide new space for Red Emma's coffee roasting business, Thread Coffee.
