BLUE JAYS: In an interview with ESPN, Hall of Famer Goose Gossage called OF Jose Bautista a “disgrace to the game” for “throwing his bat and acting like a fool.” Bautista ostentatiously flipped his bat after homering in Game 5 of the ALDS. Gossage also criticized “nerds” for making baseball a “joke,” adding: “You can't slide into second base. You can't take out the catcher because [Buster] Posey was in the wrong position.”

RED SOX: David Price gave up consecutive home runs in his Red Sox debut, an 8-2 loss to the Twins. Price, who signed a seven-year, $217 million contract, yielded home runs to Eduardo Escobar and Kurt Suzuki. He allowed two runs on four hits in three innings, striking out three.

YANKEES: Closer Aroldis Chapman gave up a run, hit two batters and walked two others in 2/3 of an inning in his spring debut as a Yankees split squad lost to the Blue Jays 11-4. Chapman reached 99 mph.

CARDINALS: Shortstop Jhonny Peralta had surgery Thursday to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb and likely will be sidelined for about 10 to 12 weeks.
