Yankees: Max Fried lost a no-hit bid in the eighth inning when the official scorer changed an earlier decision to a hit, and the Yankees went on to beat the host Rays 4-0 on Sunday in a game that featured manager Aaron Boone’s first ejection of the season. Rookie Chandler Simpson hit a grounder into the hole between first and second with one out in the sixth and reached when the ball bounced off the glove of first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. Official scorer Bill Mathews at first called the play an error. Fried was hitless through seven innings and was about to throw his first pitch of the eighth when Mathews announced he changed the decision to an error. Mathews said he looked at several video replays and determined Simpson would have beaten any throw to first. Jake Mangum then led off the eighth with a clean single to center. Fried (4-0) allowed two hits in 7 2/3 innings as the Yankees won for the fifth time in six games. Trent Grisham, Cody Bellinger and Austin Wells hit solo homers. Aaron Judge hit a drive to deep left that was ruled foul, a decision upheld in a video review, then took a called third strike. Judge started to have words with plate umpire Adam Beck, and Boone came out of the dugout and immediately was tossed. Fernando Cruz finished the two-hitter for his second save. Last May 11, Fried pitched seven hitless innings for the Braves against the host Mets and was removed after 109 pitches in a 4-1 win.

Braves: Matt Olson and Drake Baldwin hit two-run HRs, Grant Holmes allowed only one run and the Braves beat the visiting Twins 6-2 to complete a three-game sweep. Marcell Ozuna also homered off Joe Ryan (1-3), who allowed six runs and eight hits and one walk in five innings. The Braves hadn’t won back-to-back games before the sweep. Holmes (2-1) pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed four hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.

Mets: Brandon Nimmo robbed Jordan Walker of a HR in the sixth and singled home the tiebreaking run in the seventh as the Mets won 7-4 for their first four-game sweep of the Cardinals in 39 years. Francisco Lindor had three hits, including a leadoff HR, and the Mets completed a four-game sweep of Cards at home for the first time in franchise history. The club’s previous three four-game sweeps against the Cardinals came in St. Louis, the most recent in April 1986. Juan Soto had three RBIs, including a two-run double to cap a three-run eighth that made it 7-3. The Mets are 9-1 at home.

Extra innings: Rhys Hoskins went 3 for 5 with a HR, four RBIs and one of the Brewers’ franchise-record nine steals and Logan Henderson recorded nine strikeouts in his major league debut as the hosts trounced the A’s 14-1. Brice Turang scored three runs and stole three bases to help the Brewers win the rubber match of this series. The Brewers stole six bases in the first. That was the highest total by any team in a single inning since at least 1961. ... Steven Kwan and Kyle Manzardo hit two-run HRs and Manzardo added a sac fly in the 10th to rally the Guardians to a 5-4 road win over the Pirates for a three-game sweep. ... The Marlins placed OF Griffin Conine on the 60-day IL after he dislocated his left shoulder during Saturday’s loss to the Phillies. Conine, 27, had emerged as a key contributor in the Marlins’ lineup and has made an impact on defense.
