Patriots captain Peppers arrested

Patriots captain Jabrill Peppers was arrested over the weekend on assault, strangulation and other charges, with police saying Peppers attacked a girlfriend after she received a phone call while they were in bed together. Peppers, 29, appeared for his arraignment Monday in Quincy District Court. Not guilty pleas were entered on the charges, which included assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a Class “B” substance believed to be cocaine, court documents show. Braintree police said they were called to a home for an altercation between two people early Saturday. Peppers pushed the woman to the ground, shoved her head into a wall, and put his hands around her neck to strangle her, according to the documents. The woman told police Peppers choked her at least six times and forced her out of the home. Police said she refused to go to a hospital and was treated at the home for her injuries. Peppers answered the door shirtless, nodding his head and telling police, “I know what is going on,” according to the documents. He was arrested without incident.

Sun visit Lynx for decisive Game 5

The Sun are no strangers to needing a win in Minnesota to advance in the playoffs. The Sun eliminated the Lynx in the first round last season with a victory at Minnesota in the decisive Game 3. They’re in a similar position one year later. The teams meet Tuesday in Game 5 of their semifinal matchup with a trip to the WNBA Finals at stake the opportunity to face the Liberty. The Sun won Sunday to force the winner-take-all showdown. The Sun took Game 1 of this series in Minnesota before losing the next two games. “The atmosphere over there the first two games was absolutely insane. I can only imagine what it would be like in a Game 5,” Sun forward DeWanna Bonner, pictured, said after the Game 4 win Sunday. “We just got to focus in on each other and we have each other. ... They’re championship fans, they won multiple championships. So, they’re hungry for another one.” The first two games of the series had a chippiness to them with physical play and trash talking contributing to the intensity. There was less physicality in Game 3 but that changed on Sunday.

Texas QB Ewers on track to return

Quinn Ewers is on track to return as the starting quarterback for No. 1 Texas this week against rival No. 18 Oklahoma, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday, adding that his recovery from an abdominal injury will be monitored all week. “If we had to play today, sure,” Sarkisian said of Ewers’ status as the starter, noting that he had practiced last week and again early Monday. “I thought he looked good,” Sarkisian said. “I feel good about him going Saturday, but that remains to be seen.” Texas was off last week. “If anybody benefited from the time off, it was probably him,” Sarkisian said. Ewers missed the previous two games after leaving in the first half of a victory over UTSA with a strained abdomen. Arch Manning started in his place and led Texas (5-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) to wins over Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State. Texas returned to No. 1 this week after dropping to No. 2 following the win over Mississippi State. Ewers has passed for 691 yards and eight touchdowns. Manning has passed for 901 yards and nine touchdowns. —Associated Press
