Nittany Lions to play Wisconsin; Pitt beats Syracuse in 71-61 thriller
Trace McSorley completed 17 of 23 passes for 376 yards and four touchdowns and No. 7 Penn State beat Michigan State, 45-12, to win the Big Ten East on Saturday.
The Nittany Lions (10-2, 8-1) edged No. 2 Ohio State for the East title, setting up a conference championship game against West winner Wisconsin next week in Indianapolis. Penn State beat the Buckeyes, 24-20, at home Oct. 22.
McSorley set single-season school record for total offense and sparked Penn State with deep passes in the second half when the Nittany Lions outscored the Spartans (3-9, 1-8) by 35-0.
No. 6 Wisconsin 31, Minnesota 17: Corey Clement ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns, a big-play defense, pitched a second-half shutout, and the host Badgers (10-3, 7-2 Big Ten) beat the Golden Gophers (8-4, 5-4) for their 13th consecutive victory in the annual border rivalry.
Pittsburgh 71, Syracuse 61: Nate Peterman threw for 251 yards and four touchdowns and ran for one more to lead the host Panthers (8-4, 5-3) to a wild victory over the Orange (4-8, 2-6).
The final was the highest-scoring regulation game in Football Bowl Subdivision history.
No. 1 Alabama 30, No. 13 Auburn 12: Jalen Hurts rebounded from two early interceptions to pass for 286 yards and the host Crimson Tide (12-0, 8-0 Southeastern Conference) beat the Tigers (8-4, 5-3).
Alabama led just 13-9 at halftime despite dominating the stat sheet.
Alabama faces No. 15 Florida in the SEC championship game for the second straight year.
No. 9 Colorado 27, No. 22 Utah 22: The host Buffaloes (11-2, 8-1) beat the Utes (8-4, 5-4) and will face fifth-ranked Washington in the Pac-12 championship next weekend.
Kentucky 41, No. 11 Louisville 38: Austin MacGinnis' 47-yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining gave the Wildcats (7-5) an upset of the host Cardinals (9-3) and captured the Governor's Cup for the first time since 2010.
No. 12 Southern California 45, Notre Dame 27: Adoree Jackson returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns and caught a scoring pass to propel the host Trojans (9-3) past the Fighting Irish (4-8) in the rain to their eighth straight win.
Notre Dame suffered its largest margin of defeat this year.
No. 14 Florida State 31, No. 15 Florida 13: Dalvin Cook rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown as the host Seminoles (9-3) beat the Gators (8-3) for the fourth straight year.
Cook's 17-yard score in the first quarter was his 45th career rushing touchdown, which broke Greg Allen's 32-year-old mark.
Vanderbilt 45, No. 17 Tennessee 34: Kyle Shurmur threw for a career-high 416 yards, and the visiting Commodores (6-6, 3-5 SEC) scored the final 21 points in an upset of the Volunteers (8-4, 4-4).
