Tennessee interim coach Brady Hoke isn’t worrying about his own future. His focus is on the Volunteers’ seniors.

Hoke, who has rejoined the head coaching ranks for at least a couple of weeks, said Monday that his his major concern is making sure those upperclassmen get the best possible finish to a disappointing season.

“These last two games are about one thing, and that’s the seniors on this football team,” Hoke said Monday. “They have been part of 29 wins, and they’ve laid the foundation for this program that was badly needed. They’re the ones we play for.”

Tennessee athletic director John Currie named Hoke the Volunteers’ interim coach Sunday after firing Butch Jones, who had a 34-27 record in five seasons.

Hoke joined Jones’ staff this year as a defensive line coach and went 78-70 in 12 seasons as a head coach at Ball State (2003-2008), San Diego State (2009-2010) and Michigan (2011-2014).

Currie had other options within Jones’ staff. Offensive coordinator Larry Scott went 4-2 as Miami’s interim head coach in 2015. Quarterbacks coach Mike Canales was a two-time interim head coach at North Texas. Defensive coordinator Bob Shoop was a head coach at Columbia from 2003 to 2005.

But it was Hoke who had the most head coaching experience.

“Brady Hoke is a three-time conference coach of the year in three different conferences, has won at the highest level and was a very appropriate choice,” Currie said.

Arkansas QB Kelley suspended after arrest: Arkansas quarterback Cole Kelley has been suspended indefinitely after his weekend arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and won’t play Saturday when the Razorbacks host No. 16 Mississippi State.

Kelley, a freshman who has played a considerable amount this year with senior Austin Allen injured, was arrested early Sunday after an officer noticed the truck Kelley was driving hit the curb with both passenger-side tires, according to a report filed by the Fayetteville Police Department.

Kelley, 20, refused to take a breath test before being arrested, police said, and he has court hearing scheduled for Wednesday.

Kelley started four games in a row for Arkansas (4-6, 1-5 Southeastern Conference) before Allen returned from a shoulder injury in a 33-10 loss to LSU last week. Kelley did play in the fourth quarter of the loss, and he’s thrown eight touchdown passes and four interceptions this season.

Huskers to prep O’Brien to start vs. Penn State: Nebraska quarterback Tanner Lee is in the concussion protocol, and coach Mike Riley said Monday that redshirt freshman Patrick O’Brien would prepare as if he will be the starter for Saturday’s game at No. 14 Penn State.

A Minnesota player fell on Lee’s head shortly before halftime Saturday, Riley said, and O’Brien played the entire second half of the 54-21 loss.

Lee won’t be able to participate in football-related activity early this week. Riley said he wouldn’t rule out Lee for the game because the junior has a lot of experience and it’s possible he will be cleared. Riley said Andrew Bunch, a sophomore walk-on who played at Scottsdale (Arizona) Community College last year, would be the No. 2 quarterback if Lee can’t play.

Regardless of who starts, the Cornhuskers (4-6, 3-4 Big Ten) face a difficult task after losing four of their last five games.

The Nittany Lions (8-2, 5-2) have won 13 straight home games and are favored by 24 points.

Wyoming QB Allen has injured throwing shoulder: Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen, who has been viewed as a possible high NFL draft pick next year, injured his right shoulder during the Cowboys’ win over Air Force.

Coach Craig Bohl said Monday that it’s too early to say whether Allen will miss this weekend’s game against Fresno State.

Bohl described the injury as involving “soft tissue” and said Allen is receiving treatment.
