Comptroller Peter Franchot on Tuesday said his office has stopped processing electronic and paper tax filings from 11 more tax preparation businesses at 14 locations in Maryland, citing “a high volume of questionable returns.”

Franchot's office said the suspensions were based on the presence of a high volume of “suspicious” characteristics on returns submitted by those locations, such as significant changes in refund requests from the previous year or inflated or undocumented business expenses.

The decision comes after earlier announcements that the office was no longer processing returns from 23 Liberty Tax Service franchises and three other private preparers. Liberty Tax has said it is investigating the concerns.

Franchot stopped accepting returns from:

Tax Rite Services – 3406 Belair Road, Baltimore, and 90 Shawgo Court, Middle River.

Beverly Branch – 2230 E. Monument St. and 1439 W. Patapsco Road, Baltimore.

Tax Relief Solution – 13042 Old Stagecoach Road, Laurel.

Loyalty Tax Services – 4602A Harford Road, Baltimore.

REMG Inc. – 8715 Windsor Mill Road, Windsor Mill.

EMACK Tax Service – 123 W. Saratoga St., Baltimore. (An employee who answered the phone at a different location said that office has moved.)

People Tax Service (aka Neighborhood Tax Services) – 3219 Belair Road, Suite A, Baltimore.

AO Tax Services – 2307 E. Monument St. and 3231 Belair Road, Baltimore.

Hartley Financial Enterprises LLC – 4602 Hampnett Ave., Suite 3, Baltimore.

Fred Accounting & Tax Services – 760 Morton St. NW, Washington, D.C.
