President Donald Trump vowed to defend Christianity in spaces like schools, workplaces and “halls of government.”

“This Holy Week, my Administration renews its promise to defend the Christian faith in our schools, military, workplaces, hospitals, and halls of government. We will never waver in safeguarding the right to religious liberty, upholding the dignity of life, and protecting God in our public square,” Trump said in a message the White House shared.

Trump’s remarks on Sunday came two days after Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly asked staffers to disclose any discrimination that took place against Christians or employees advocating on their behalf between January 2021 and this past January.

A task force on bias against Christians would investigate all allegations, according to the Associated Press, which reported obtaining copies of the message.

“The task force is soliciting examples of anti-religious bias, particularly from the past four years, where the Department targeted anyone for their religion, including discrimination, harassment, exclusion, disciplinary action, adverse security clearance determinations, or any other adverse action, or in retaliation for exercising their religious rights,” the State Department’s message reportedly said. “This includes anti-religious bias committed by department employees in their official duties against members of the public.”

Someone who took action against a person that used religion as a reason to not receive mandatory vaccinations or attend work on a holiday could be held responsible, the Associated Press said. Anyone who mistreated somebody that refused to participate in events promoting themes inconsistent with their religious beliefs, including practices related to preferred pronouns, could also be held liable, according to the news outlet.

Trump said in his message he prays the U.S. will remain, among other things, a beacon of faith for the world.

“As we focus on Christ’s redeeming sacrifice, we look to His love, humility, and obedience — even in life’s most difficult and uncertain moments. This week, we pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our beloved Nation,” he said.
