Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., on Wednesday described President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to nominate former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., for U.S. attorney general as “God-tier level trolling.”

The nomination set the political world ablaze Wednesday as many questioned Gaetz’s ability to lead given the ongoing House Ethics Committee probe into his conduct. He may face difficulty receiving confirmation from the Senate, judging by moderate lawmakers’ reaction to the nomination.

“We need a serious attorney general. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to consider somebody that is serious,” Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, reportedly said. “This one was not on my bingo card.”

Gaetz resigned his position in the House Wednesday night. Amid the chaos, Sen. Fetterman laughed off the appointment as “trolling,” online slang used to describe intentionally trying to upset someone.

“I mean it’s — I would describe it as God-tier level trolling to just trigger a full-on China Syndrome to own the libs in perpetuity,” he said in a video captured by NBC News reporter Brennan Leach.

Elon Musk, who is slated to be co-head of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, shared the video of Fetterman’s comments, calling them “amazing.”

The senator followed the stance with a post via X clarifying his remark.

“There have been serious, qualified individuals nominated to posts, like Rubio or Stefanik,” he said. “Eric Schmitt would be a solid choice for AG. But Dem opinions on Gaetz aren’t that interesting. The good ones will come from my GOP colleagues to justify a vote for that jerkoff.”

Though Sen. Fetterman does not support Trump, he showed support for his decision to nominate Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., to be secretary of state.

“Unsurprisingly, the other team’s pick will have political differences than my own,” Sen. Fetterman wrote. “That being said, my colleague @SenMarcoRubio is a strong choice and I look forward to voting for his confirmation.”

Both senators are aligned through their support of Israel as it continues to fight Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists.

During a 2020 rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, Trump famously referred to his ability to attract large crowds as doing “a little trolling.” The remark has since become enshrined in online meme culture.

“We like to troll, we like to go the night before one of their primaries, we just—we do a little trolling, it’s called we do a little trolling,” Trump said.
