Anne Arundel Police made an arrest Tuesday in a Monday night shooting that killed a 27-year-old man from Odenton.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. Monday, officers found Oludayo Olugbemi alive but wounded in the 500 block of Meadowmist Way, a court within the ReNew Odenton apartment community, police said in a news release. First responders began administering life-saving measures on the scene and Olugbemi was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead.

Police spokesperson Justin Mulcahy said Nicholas Francis Xavier Giroux, 36, of Odenton, was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with first- and second-degree murder.

Giroux’s charges were not yet available to review through the Maryland Judiciary. His relationship with Olugbemi also was not immediately clear, nor were the circumstances of the shooting.

Area residents told officers that they heard several gunshots outside their homes.

Between the city of Annapolis and the rest of Anne Arundel County, Olugbemi is the fifth homicide victim of 2024. He was also the second in three days.

Keion McKinney, 34, was shot in the backyard of a Severn townhome Friday night, police said.

Like Olugbemi’s killing, police suspect the McKinney’s shooting was a “targeted incident,” although they did not say the two were connected.

Investigators are still seeking a suspect in McKinney’s case.
