CONCORD, N.H. — New Hampshire Republican congressional candidate Lily Tang Williams on Thursday slammed her opponent Maggie Goodlander, claiming the Democrat’s wealth has made her out of touch with Americans.
Goodlander, a former Justice Department official, suggested during a Thursday debate hosted by local outlet WMUR that Williams supports trickle-down economics. That theory, popularized by former President Ronald Reagan, states tax cuts for major businesses would benefit the economy as a whole.
“I believe that the middle class deserves a tax cut, and I believe that we will do a lot for this country by ensuring that we don’t continue this disastrous tax policy,” Goodlander said.
Williams fired back, accusing the former Biden administration official of hypocrisy.
“Do you go shopping?” she pressed. “Go to Walmart? Buy food? I talk to those people. And you pretend to be a renter in Nashua a few months ago, move back to run for this open seat with millions of dollars from Washington, D.C., insiders.”
Former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. endorsed Williams following the debate, saying he was “so impressed” with the Republican’s performance.
“Maggie Goodlander is one of the queens of the neocons. These are the people who supported the Patriot Act or the surveillance state and censorship state, who have kept us in a constant state of war,” he said.
Kennedy also referenced Goodlander’s husband, Jake Sullivan, who has served as national security advisor to President Joe Biden since 2021.
Williams hails from China, where she was born under communist leader Mao Zedong. She notes on her website “I fear the country I love is becoming the country I left.”
