Two men are dead after being struck by an Amtrak train Sunday evening in the Rosedale area, according to Baltimore County officials.

The men struck had been riding a four-wheeler on the train tracks near the unit block of Schaffers Lane, a Baltimore County Police spokesperson said. They were not immediately identified.

The train was traveling from New York City to Roanoke, Virginia, when it “came into contact” with “someone obstructing the tracks between our Aberdeen and Baltimore stations,” Amtrak said in a statement.

The rail service said the train had approximately 519 passengers on board, none of whom were injured. Further delays were anticipated Sunday night for trains operating between Wilmington and Baltimore, the rail service said.

Amtrak will be investigating the crash, though the Baltimore County Police Crash Team was on the scene Sunday night to assist the federal rail service.

“Whether the action by the trespassing person was intentional or unintentional would be a determination by the police or medical examiner investigation,” Amtrak said in a statement.
