


Stars veteran center Joe Pavelski was not at the arena for a team meeting Tuesday, and his status for Game 2 and beyond against the Wild was uncertain after a massive hit that took him out of the series-opening loss midway through the second period.
When asked if Pavelski, 38, was in concussion protocol, coach Peter DeBoer responded, “I don’t have anything like that yet.”
Pavelski hit his head on the ice after the crushing blow from defenseman Matt Dumba to the side of the Wild net Monday night. Officials initially announced a five-minute major penalty before that was changed to a two-minute minor for roughing after a video review. The Stars center remained on the ice for some time, during which teammate Max Domi fought Dumba.
The Stars lost the Western Conference playoff series opener 3-2.
Game 2 is Wednesday night in Dallas.
Alex Iafallo scored in OT to lift the Kings to a 4-3 victory over the host Oilers to open their West series. ... Brad Marchand scored his 50th career playoff goal, David Pastrnak and Jake DeBrusk also scored, and the league-best Bruins opened the East series by beating the visiting Panthers 3-1. Linus Ullmark stopped 31 shots.
NBA: Kings G De’Aaron Fox won the league’s inaugural clutch player of the year award. Fox led the league with 193 clutch points this season. Clutch games are defined as those where the margin between the teams is five points or less at any point in the final five minutes. Fox held off the Heat’s Jimmy Butler and Bulls DeMar DeRozan for the award.
NFL: Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, who recently agreed to a record-breaking contract extension, had surgery on his right ankle earlier this offseason, ESPN reported. The procedure was to remove “hardware” that had been inserted in the ankle after Hurts suffered a high ankle sprain while playing for Alabama in 2018.
