Royals: Prospect Raul Mondesi, the son of former National League Rookie of the Year Raul Mondesi, has been suspended for 50 games for testing positive for clenbuterol, a banned steroid. The penalty was announced Tuesday against the 20-year-old infielder, who is on the Royals' 40-man roster but had been optioned to Double A. He was the first player to make his big-league debut in the World Series, doing so in October. A positive test for a performance-enhancing drug usually results in an 80-game suspension, but Major League Baseball and the players' union agreed to the reduced punishment after Mondesi showed the steroid came from an over-the-counter cold medicine he had taken.
Diamondbacks: Outfielder Michael Bourn, a two-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner who was released by the Blue Jays on Saturday, has agreed to terms on a minor-league contract.
Brewers: Aaron Hill had three hits and Ryan Braun added a pair of RBI singles as the Brewers won their rematch against Adam Conley by beating the Marlins 10-2. Conley held the Brewers hitless through 72/3 innings on April 29 but gave up four runs on seven hits in four innings this time.
Tigers: Andrew Romine drove in the tiebreaking run on a play that withstood a replay challenge under the new slide rule, Miguel Cabrera tacked on a pinch-hit RBI and the Tigers overcame Ryan Zimmerman's two homers to beat the Nationals 5-4 and end a seven-game losing streak.
Yankees: Brett Gardner doubled home the tiebreaking run in the eighth as the Yankees overcame three home runs by Lorenzo Cain to beat the reeling Royals 10-7. Cain tied his career high with five RBIs.
Phillies: Adam Morgan allowed one run in seven innings, Mikael Franco homered and the Phillies handed the Braves another home loss, 3-2. The Braves are 1-16 at Turner Field, the worst home start by any team since 1913.
Extra innings: Marlins pitcher Nefi Ogando has been placed on the 15-day DL because of a broken rib on his right side. Ogando was hurt covering first base Sunday when he collided with the Phillies' Cesar Hernandez after both had crossed the bag. ... The Angels acquired infielder Brendan Ryan from the Nationals for cash considerations. ... A day after giving up a career-high five home runs, Royals pitcher Chris Young said he will return to Kansas City on Wednesday to have an MRI done on his right forearm, which he said has been inflamed.
