The U.S. Marshals Service has joined the search for a man wanted in connection with an assault involving a gun last year in Fells Point.
Brian Rodriguez-Salas, 29, is wanted on several charges, including first-degree assault, second-degree assault and two weapons-related violations.
According to court documents, Rodriguez-Salas is accused of assaulting and threatening a man with a firearm during a July 16 dispute in the 1700 block of Eastern Avenue.
The alleged victim told investigators that Rodriguez-Salas and another man surrounded him outside the Fells Point Compassion Center food pantry, where the assault took place. He reported that Rodriguez-Salas confronted him about allegedly filing a report against him months ago.
The alleged victim told investigators that while living together, Rodriguez-Salas had previously attempted to use his identity to obtain some money and later threatened him and his wife with a knife after the incident, according to the statement of charges.
The couple later moved out of the location.
Outside the center and after picking up a meal, the alleged victim reported Rodriguez-Salas and another man confronted him with weapons. He told police that Rodriguez-Salas was armed with a gun and the other man had a chain wrapped around his hands.
According to the statement of charges, the alleged victim said Rodriguez-Salas punched him in the face and then held a gun through the pocket of his hoodie and pointed it toward the man’s torso. The alleged victim said that, when he tried to get away, the second suspect blocked his path and began “flexing and twirling a silver link chain” in his hands and threatened to hit him with it if he didn’t stay.
According to the statement of charges, the alleged victim managed to run around the suspect and then yelled into the crowd that Rodriguez-Salas had a gun, forcing the men to stop pursuing him.
Court documents state the alleged victim identified Rodriguez-Salas through a photograph provided by the investigating officer.
A warrant was issued for Rodriguez-Salas’s arrest two days after the reported assault.
