Miguel Cabrera became the 100th player with 2,500 hits on a third-inning single. Indians RHP Trevor Bauer hit three batters, including Ian Kinsler on the helmet. Daniel Norris replied, throwing behind Rajai Davis. The Tigers pulled within two games of the Blue Jays for the second AL wild card.
Mariners: Seth Smith homered twice and drove in four runs to key a 7-3 victory over the Astros. The Mariners are tied with the Tigers. Ariel Miranda (5-1), acquired from the Orioles at the trade deadline, allowed two runs on three hits and struck out eight in seven innings.
Blue Jays: Alex Meyer and four relievers held the Jays to four hits as the Angels won 4-0. Meyer struck out a career-high seven and gave up two hits in five innings for his first career win.
Orioles: Mark Trumbo hit his MLB-best 43rd home run to break an eighth-inning tie and key a 2-1 victory over the Rays. Manny Machado also homered for the Orioles, who lead the Jays by one game in the AL wild-card race. Zach Britton got three outs for his 45th save in 45 tries.
A's: Khris Davis' two homers in a 5-2 win over the Rangers made him the first A's player with 40 since Jason Giambi in 2000.
Mets: Gabriel Ynoa struck out eight in 42/3 innings in his first MLB start as the Mets completed a sweep of the Twins 3-2. Michael Conforto had a two-run single, and T.J. Rivera homered. Lucas Duda, out since May 20 with a stress fracture in his back, went 0-for-2. The Mets lead the Giants by one one game for the NL wild-card lead. Their 13 remaining games are against teams with losing records: the Braves, Phillies and Marlins. ... 2B Neil Walker, who had season-ending back surgery, will be eligible for free agency but said he would like to stay with the Mets. ...
