TWINS:RF Max Kepler singled in three at-bats two days after a scary-looking hand injury in an 8-2 win over the Blue Jays in Dunedin, Fla. Kepler was cut on his right little finger Saturday when Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval inadvertently stepped on him while Kepler dove back to the bag.
BLUE JAYS:Josh Donaldson made his spring debut, going 0-for-2 with a walk against the Twins in his first game since injuring his right calf more than a month ago. The 2015 AL MVP hurt himself Feb. 17 while running sprints. He’s set to play 3B on Wednesday against the Tigers.
RAYS: Defensive standout Kevin Kiermaier and the team finalized a six-year, $53.6 million contract extension that keeps the CF with the team through 2022. The deal includes a club option for 2023 that including incentives could boost the value of the agreement to $66.15 million.
REDS: Newcomer Scott Feldman was chosen to start against the Phillies on opening day. It’ll be the third opening day start for the 33-year-old Feldman. The right-hander also started season openers for the Rangers in 2010 and the Astros in 2014.
EXTRA INNINGS: OF Tim Tebow’s next team on his baseball journey will be Columbia Fireflies. The former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL QB will start the regular season with the Mets’ Class A club in South Carolina. Tebow, 29, is hitting .235 with four hits in 17 at-bats in exhibition games. ... Marlins starter Stephen Fife worked four scoreless innings and lowered his spring ERA to 1.50 in a 9-3 win over the Braves. ... Matt Holliday hit a two-run HR and Brett Gardner had a two-run single for the Yankees in a 9-3 win over the Nationals. ... OF Eloy Jimenez, the Cubs’ top prospect, was diagnosed with a bone bruise and will rest his right shoulder for at least three weeks.
