A North Carolina State University student has been arrested after allegedly shooting into random cars and homes on two highways in Raleigh.

The Raleigh Police Department said they received 12 reports of shots being fired at vehicles between Nov. 4 and Nov. 7 near Interstates 40 and 440.

One person in a vehicle was injured in the first incident on Nov. 4 on I-40 near Cary Towne Boulevard, according to officials.

Andrew Thomas Graney, 23, was charged with one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and 11 counts of firing a weapon into an occupied vehicle or dwelling.

Graney is a senior marketing major in anthropology at the university, school spokesperson Lauren Baker said. A second person taken into custody with Graney was released without charges, police said.

Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson said during a Thursday news conference the 12 incidents are related, including the eight vehicles fired into.

She added it is unclear if the shots were being fired from a vehicle or on foot.

The shootings remain under investigation, and a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible.

“We will continue to work with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to ensure the safety of those traveling on our streets and highways,” police said.
