As board chair of the Associated Black Charities, Dominique Moore was fully on board with the idea of wearing a red dress to go with the gala color theme. However, the shopping part of that equation proved to be a challenge — as it always had for Moore.

“Truth is, I don’t like to shop. I don’t even like to grocery shop. I’m 50 years old and my mother, Charlene Smith — who is the true diva of the family — buys my clothes still,” the Hanlon Park resident said with a laugh.

“When my mother is out shopping, she’ll take pictures and text them to me and ask, ‘Do you like this? Do you want me to get this?’ “ she said.

However, Moore, a family and real estate law attorney, decided to do the dreaded task herself, beginning last summer.

“I really wanted to have a red dress that was special. Until the day of the event, I still was looking for a red dress. But I had that white dress. So I thought if I’m going to wear all white, I’d better have something in red. Diane [Bell McKoy, ABC CEO] has this red flower pin. It’s her signature piece because it’s similar to the ABC logo, which is a starburst. So I called her and asked if I could borrow it,” she said.

HER ENSEMBLE: Ralph Lauren one-shoulder goddess dress she bought online. Red flower pin borrowed from McKoy. Enzo Angiolini nude peep-toe sandals from Tesori Boutique. Gold clutch “that was a free gift with a purchase from somewhere.” Rhinestone chandelier earrings and crystal cuff she’s had for a while. Crystal cocktail rings that were a gift from her mother.
