Elon Musk’s political action committee has announced it awarded a Wisconsin voter $1 million for backing a petition that opposes “activist judges.”
The America PAC says it stands for “secure borders,” “safe cities” and a “fair justice system.” Registered Wisconsin voters can earn $100 for signing its petition and for referring other signers. Each person who signs is also entered to win a $1 million payout.
“Judges should interpret laws as written, not rewrite them to fit their personal or political agendas,” the petition reads. “By signing below, I’m rejecting the actions of activist judges who impose their own views and demanding a judiciary that respects its role — interpreting, not legislating.”
The PAC announced on X that “Scott A.” from Green Bay became the first $1 million winner, with more winners to be announced through April 1. The offer comes ahead of a contentious state Supreme Court election.
That race will decide which party controls the state’s high court ahead of several major rulings on topics like abortion and voting rules. It has attracted attention from major political figures s Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Donald Trump Jr., who each paid visits to Wisconsin to campaign for their candidate.
Musk’s PAC made similar offers to voters in swing states ahead of the 2024 presidential election. He contributed more than $70 million to the PAC to help elect President Donald Trump.
A Pennsylvania judge in November ruled the $1 million sweepstakes could continue despite complaints it violates election laws. The PAC admitted during the trial it does not select winners at random and vets them ahead of time to “feel out their personality, (and) make sure they were someone whose values aligned” with America PAC.
Reps. Ro Khanna, D-Calif. and Summer Lee, D-Pa., on Wednesday unveiled the “Abolish Super PACs Act” that would impose a $5,000 contribution limit.
