A man was fatally shot Friday night in a parking lot near the Arundel Mills Mall movie theater complex in Hanover, Anne Arundel County Police said.

The shooting victim was not identified in a Saturday news release and no arrests were announced. Police said preliminary investigation suggests the incident was “a targeted event,” meaning there is no threat to the public.

Police officers responded around 9:30 p.m. Friday to a report of a shooting, arriving about two minutes following the initial call. They were directed to the “rear parking lot nearest the movie theater complex,” a news release said. There, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

He was taken to the hospital, but died en route, the release said.
