The Rodgers Forge community will gather Wednesday in support of Mark McKenzie, the husband and father of three who was shot outside his home Friday in an attempted robbery.

Members of the community will join at a walk organized by Baltimore County Councilman Mike Ertel in response to the violence. The walk will be at Dumbarton Middle School at 5 p.m., according to Ertel’s Facebook post. There will be parking, but people are asked to walk to the school. If it rains, the event will be rescheduled for next week.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m. Friday, Baltimore County Police officers responded to the 400 block of Dunkirk Road for reports of a shooting and found 50-year-old McKenzie with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

McKenzie is a husband and a father of three children. He is beloved in the quiet and friendly neighborhood of Rodgers Forge, said Michele Mangiafico, a resident of the neighborhood.

“I didn’t know him personally, but everyone else in this neighborhood knew him and loved him,” Mangiafico said. “I think this has hit the community hard.”

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized to support McKenzie’s surgeries and his family. As of Tuesday afternoon, the GoFundMe had raised over $97,000.

“After a senseless act of violence in our beloved Rodgers Forge, our friend Mark Mckenzie is facing several surgeries and a long recovery,” the GoFundMe page says. “The outpouring of support from this community has been incredible and it is apparent that so many people want to help the Mckenzie family.”

Baltimore County Police determined Monday that the crime occurred during an armed robbery but has not identified any suspects in the case. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit are asking anyone with information about this case to contact 410-307-2020.

Information can be provided anonymously through Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-756-2587(7LOCKUP). Information may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
