The Loyola Maryland women's lacrosse team fell to Duke, 14-8, in the first round of the NCAA tournament Friday night.

Senior Maddy Blakeman, junior Cami Whiteford (Severn) and redshirt freshman Sabrina Tabasso led the Greyhounds (14-6) with two goals each, while sophomore Hannah Savage and freshman Hannah Powers added one goal and one assist each.

For Duke (11-8), Kyra Harney led all players with four goals and five points, while Olivia Jenner won 10 draw controls.

Whiteford scored the game's first two goals, but the Blue Devils responded with a five-goal run to turn their deficit into a 5-2 advantage with 15:08 to play in the opening half.

Blakeman finished a pass from Savage at 10:54 to extend her scoring streak to 20 games, but Duke maintained its three-goal advantage by scoring at 6:49. Tabasso's goal at 2:12 cut the Greyhounds' deficit to 6-4 going into halftime.

The Blue Devils stretched their lead to 8-4 with back-to-back goals by the 23:46 mark, but Powers and Blakeman scored unassisted within a minute of each other to bring Loyola to within 8-6 with 20:11 left to play.

Duke answered one minute later and added four goals by the six-minute mark to extend its lead to seven, 13-6.

Massachusetts 13, Princeton 12, OT: Eileen McDonald scored the game-winner with 2:23 left in overtime as the Minutewomen (19-1) topped the Tigers (11-6) at Cornell.

Princeton's Olivia Hompe scored the tying goal with eight-tenths of a second left in regulation to force overtime.

The game was tied eight times and had nine lead changes. Erika Epp had a game-high four goals for UMass, and Hompe finished with two to lead 11 Tigers in scoring.

The Minutewomen will face eighth-seeded host Cornell on Sunday at 4 p.m.

No. 7 seed Penn 17, Wagner 7: The Quakers (14-4) advance to the second round for the third year in a row, beating the Seahawks (10-9) at Towson.

Alex Condon and Catherine Dickinson each scored four goals for Penn. Wagner tied the game twice, but the Quakers finished on a 6-0 run over the final 13:35.

Nina Corcoran (three goals) became Penn's single-season points leader, eclipsing the record of 76 set by Ali DeLuca in 2010. She finished the game with seven points, giving her 82 this season.

No. 8 seed Cornell 15, Canisius 11: Amie Dickson and Taylor Reed each had a hat trick to lead the host Big Red (14-4) past the Golden Griffins (13-7).

Cornell outscored Canisius 9-5 in the second half.

Penn State 16, Winthrop 6: The Nittany Lions (12-6) went on a 7-0 run in the second half and beat the Eagles (20-3) at Florida.

Steph Lazo (St. Mary's) and Madison Carter (South River) each scored four goals and Madison Cyr (Winters Mill) and Katie O'Donnell each had a hat trick for Penn State.

The game was delayed an hour because of thunderstorms. The Nittany Lions will face second-seeded host Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Northwestern 15, Louisville 5: Three Wildcats had three goals each: Danita Stroup, Kaleigh Craig and Leighton Yenor, and Northwestern (11-9) beat the Cardinals (12-6) at Notre Dame.

Northwestern's defense limited Louisville to two goals in the first half. The Wildcats face sixth-seeded host Notre Dame on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Stanford 9, James Madison 8: The Cardinal (15-4) used a 5-0 run in the first half to take control and a 3-0 run in the second half to hold off the Dukes (10-10) at Southern California.

Alex Poplawski gave Stanford a 9-6 lead with 9:50 to go. James Madison scored twice over the final eight minutes. The Cardinal will face fifth-seeded host Southern California on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Stony Brook 11, Boston College 9: The Seawolves (17-3) took a two-goal lead at the half before trading goals with the host Eagles (10-9) in the second half to win.

Stony Brook used two 3-0 runs to take a 6-4 lead into the second half. Courtney Murphy finished with a game-high four goals for the Seawolves.

Stony Brook advances to Sunday's second round to face fourth-seeded Syracuse at 1 p.m.
