The Maryland Department of General Services’ latest round of testing on the State Center office buildings has cleared one of the four of Legionella, which was found in the Baltimore complex’s water systems in November.

In a news release Monday, the department said a test completed at 300 W. Preston St., which houses the Maryland Department of Budget and Management, among others, yielded results “within the normal limits.” The first tests conducted on State Center showed the bacteria was present at 201 W. Preston St. and 300 W. Preston St. on Nov. 8.

The test on 300 W. Preston St. was completed on Nov. 27. Meanwhile, sanitizing and flushing the water systems in 201 W. Preston Street, 301 W. Preston St., and 1100 N. Eutaw St. was completed this past week. Results for those tests should be available after 10 to 15 days, as the water samples are cultured to find the bacteria that can cause Legionnaire’s disease and Pontiac Fever.

The most recent test results have lifted the building’s water use restrictions, so DGS provided employees with water.

Since Legionella was found in the State Center buildings’ water supplies, DGS has also found it in two Baltimore district courts, which closed over the weekend for sanitization efforts.
