Tom Flacco’s three TD passes power Towson
Tigers rout Elon, 41-10; Morgan State shuts out Delaware State; Bowie wins
Tom Flacco threw three touchdown passes, Aidan O'Neill set a single-season field goal record and Towson dominated Elon 41-10 on Saturday in a key Colonial Athletic Association game.
Flacco, who was 26 of 43 for 326 yards, connected with Chris Clark and Shane Leatherbury to give the Tigers (7-3, 5-2) at 14-3 lead at the half. Flacco found Leatherbury early in the third for his 25th touchdown pass of the season, second most in Towson history. Flacco is three scoring passes behind school hall of famer Dan Crowley (1994). Jabari Allen had nine catches for 143 yards.
Towson, ranked 20th in the FCS coaches' poll, piled up 486 yards and held Elon, ranked fifth, to 238 on the way to the Tigers' largest win of the season. Robert Heyward had 13 tackles for Towson. The loss knocked the Phoenix (6-3, 4-2) out of a three-way tie for the CAA lead
With 8:30 to play before halftime, Chase broke free for a 75-run and Morgan State made it hold up defensively limiting the Hornets (2-8, 2-5) to 182 total yards.
The Hornets ran the ball 37 times and were limited to 65 yards rushing — a 1.8 yards-per-carry average. The Bears now have won nine of the last 11 meetings against Delaware State since 2008, including eight straight.
Connor Cox (South River) completed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Lincoln Ikwubuo with 1:37 left to tie the score at 35 and force overtime. Cox finished 12 of 23 for 215 yards and four touchdown passes. Frostburg State finished 9-0 for the first time in program history, won the conference title and secured an automatic bid to the NCAA D III playoffs.
