Djokovic, Murray are in the draw

Novak Djokovic, pictured, and Andy Murray both were placed in the Wimbledon bracket during Friday’s draw despite coming off recent operations. That’s no guarantee either 37-year-old past champion at the All England Club will actually compete at the event that begins Monday. But Djokovic, at least, has looked in practice sessions this week as though he is ready to go, less than a month after having surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee. He has won seven of his men’s-record 24 Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon. Murray, a two-time trophy winner at the grass-court tournament, made clear on Thursday that he would wait until the last moment to decide whether or not to play and was likelier to do so in doubles — where he and his older brother, Jamie, were awarded a wild-card entry — than in singles. He had a cyst removed from his spinal cord last weekend. The unseeded Murray’s first-round singles match against Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic will be scheduled for Tuesday. Djokovic is also slated for Tuesday against qualifier Vit Kopriva of the Czech Republic.

Flagg, Pritchard lead US select team

Cooper Flagg’s summer will include some time playing against the U.S. Olympic team. The Duke signee — expected to be one of the top picks in the 2025 NBA draft — was the lone collegian among the 15 players announced Friday as members of the USA Basketball men’s select team that will train alongside the squad the Americans are sending to the Paris Olympics. Flagg already has USA Basketball experience, most notably as a member of the team that won gold at the 2022 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup. He was picked as USA Basketball’s male athlete of the year for 2022, the youngest player to win that honor. Also on the select team: Payton Pritchard, pictured, of the Celtics, the Heat’s Jaime Jaquez Jr., Pistons’ Jalen Duren, Magic’s Jalen Suggs, Warrior teammates Trayce Jackson-Davis and Brandin Podziemski, Rocket teammates Jabari Smith Jr. and Amen Thompson, the Hornets’ Brandon Miller, Pelicans’ Trey Murphy, Kings’ Keegan Murray, Jazz’s Micah Potter, Nigel Hayes-Davis of Turkish club Fenerbahce and USA Basketball standout Langston Galloway.

Korda says dog bite to keep her out

Nelly Korda says she was bitten by a dog in Seattle and will not be able to defend her title next week at the Aramco-sponsored Ladies European Tour event outside London. Korda posted a short message on Instagram on Friday saying “I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and fully recover.” She said it happened on Saturday, a day after the No. 1 player in women’s golf missed the cut in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Sahalee. She offered no other details, such as where the bite occurred or the seriousness of the injury. Korda, who tied an LPGA record earlier this year with five consecutive victories, has missed the cut in three straight tournaments for the first time in her career. Two of those missed cuts featured an 80 in the U.S. Women’s Open and an 81 in the Women’s PGA. Korda won the Aramco Team Series-London last year. She had planned to defend her title at Centurion Golf Club before going to France for the Amundi Evian Championship, the fourth of five LPGA majors this year. —Associated Press
