Another day, another car reportedly swiped from East Baltimore’s streets.

“An Uber driver had his car stolen,” police dispatch said Saturday around 9 p.m.

According to the Baltimore Police Department, along the 1700 block of North Milton Avenue, four juveniles armed with a gun and knife demanded the driver of a black Toyota Camry get out so they could jump in and drive off.

“Two males, two females, juveniles, one produced a knife, one produced a handgun,” dispatch said. “I got a Toyota sedan driving pretty recklessly with what appears to be juveniles hanging out of the passenger window.”

After a short chase, officers found the car unoccupied.

But this street is no stranger to juveniles committing car crimes.

“Check over at Lafayette and Milton Avenue, there’s some juveniles that’s known to live in that area that do a lot of carjackings over there,” an officer said over the radio.

“We had a stolen auto bailout right in front of the district. It was a stolen Kia. It was one of those kids that live right there in Lafayette, I think he has a Northern address,” another said.

Information shared by officers suggests the suspects could be well known to law enforcement.

“In reference, I was approached by their grandmother. I got their information. She witnessed him in the car,” another officer said.

Additionally, less than 24 hours later on the same street, BPD says officers arrested five young people sitting in another stolen car.

That arrest was made around 3 p.m. Sunday. Police say the suspects were 21, 19, 16, 15 and just 9 years old.

Investigators also tied the group to an attempted robbery and assault occurring shortly after they’re accused of smashing a woman’s car window with a metal pole and dragging her out of the vehicle at Grundy and Bank streets.

Baltimore resident Jay Jackson expressed frustration over the ongoing crime spree. “I don’t want to whisper. I want to yell, get out of here,” Jackson said. He recounted how a group of juveniles attempted to carjack him and his wife about a year ago, and just last week, he says his sister’s car window was smashed, and everything inside was taken.

“What we’re doing now, we’re getting together as family. We literally come through here on a regular basis, like we get paid for being security,” said Jackson.

The Baltimore Police Department has not confirmed if Sunday’s arrests are connected to Saturday’s armed carjacking.

However, they did confirm that only the 9-year-old was released to his parents, a relief to residents who say it’s the same kids committing the same crimes over and over again.

“Don’t release them, keep them!” Jackson urged.
