The Ravens’ NFL-worst pass defense got a little help Tuesday.

Baltimore acquired cornerback Tre’Davious White, along with a 2027 seventh-round draft pick, from the Rams in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick, the team announced. The trade came just ahead of the NFL’s 4 p.m. deadline.

It also provides depth and some talent to a secondary that has struggled this season, allowing a league-high 280.9 yards per game along with 7.9 yards per pass, which ranks 28th.

White, who spent his first seven seasons in the league with the Buffalo Bills after being drafted 27th overall out of LSU in 2017, was an All-Pro in 2019 and was selected to the Pro Bowl that season and in 2020. He led the NFL in interceptions in 2019 with six in 15 games and had 17 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, 58 tackles, including four for loss and two forced fumbles.

After being released by the Bills in the offseason, he signed a one-year, $4.25 million deal with Los Angeles.

But White, 29, struggled during his brief stint with the Rams, giving up four touchdowns in his first four games. After that, he became a healthy scratch, with his last game a Sept. 29 loss to the Chicago Bears as his agent searched for a willing trade partner.

He has just 12 tackles and two passes defended this season.

White also has an injury history, having suffered a torn ACL in 2021 that kept him out the entire season and a torn Achilles in October 2023 that also ended his season.

Still, the Ravens gave up essentially nothing to get him, similar to their acquisition last week of former Pro Bowl wide receiver Diontae Johnson, whom they acquired from the Carolina Panthers in a pick swap. White’s addition provides depth to a group that has seen its share of struggles and injuries as well.

Rookie cornerback Nate Wiggins has missed two games with injuries and veteran Marlon Humphrey has missed one.

Brandon Stephens, meanwhile, ranks 161st out of 205 cornerbacks, according to Pro Football Focus. He also has no interceptions, three pass breakups, and has allowed 14.7 yards per reception and a passer rating of 116.4.

White hasn’t been much better in limited action, however.

He ranks 108th, per PFF, has allowed 16.8 yards per catch, a passer rating of 147.8 and has two pass breakups.

The Ravens (6-3) have won six of their past seven games but are allowing 24.3 points per game, which ranks 23rd, and have struggled mightily on stopping opponents on third down (46.22%), ranking 30th.

One area of need general manager Eric DeCosta did not address at the trade deadline was the pass rush.

Baltimore is fifth in the league in sacks (28), led by outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy’s seven, but has also struggled to pressure the quarterback. The Ravens rank 22nd in pass rush win rate (37%), according to ESPN analytics, with Van Noy and outside linebacker Odafe Oweh ranking 16th and 14th, respectively, in pass rush win rate among edge rushers.

Still, coach John Harbaugh has not panicked, at least not publicly.

“I love our guys. I love our roster,” he said last week. “I feel like our roster is really good, and I think every one of our guys is going to play really well down the stretch to the best of their ability.”

To make room for White on the roster, the Ravens released undrafted free agent rookie running back Chris Collier. With second-year back Keaton Mitchell on the verge of returning, Collier’s days were numbered anyway, though it’s likely he will end up back on the practice squad.
